What’s one fear you had to work hard to get over 🤔? •
In my work with individuals, I often discuss how fear might be holding them back, whether it’s fear of rejection, fear of failure, and more. •
The first step to working through fear is acknowledging how understandable and valid it is 🧡. We don’t CHOOSE what to become afraid of; rather, certain life events, situations, and more can CONDITION us to make certain (albeit overly simplistic) associations and find things scary 😱. •
Secondly, know that we are actually wired to have certain fears due to the fact that we are social beings 👫. If our ancestors didn’t care what other people thought of them at ALL, we never would have survived as a species! After all, so much of our survival depended on teamwork, cooperation, and other important socially-involved tasks 🤝.
Oftentimes, I help people become aware of how their fears developed, why this may have been an adaptive function once upon a time, AND how it could be negatively impacting them today. Then, we slowly work together to approach the fears in a gradual, safe way to help challenge some of our simplistic beliefs 🧐.
